Create Multiple Nodes From A Single Page

The Multi Node Add module provides an interface for creating multiple pieces of content easily from a single page. The module is a time saver for content creators who often enter in a large amount of articles and pages. Using Multi Node Add is fairly straight forward, just enable the module and then go to /multi_node_add to create content.

Getting Started

First, download and install the Multi Node Add module. For this article I’ll be using the latest development release (7.x-1.x-dev).

If you use Drush, run the following command:

$ drush dl multi_node_add
$ drush en multi_node_add

Using Multi Node Add

1. Once you have enabled the module go to /multi_node_add or click on the “Create multiple nodes” link within the Navigation block.

The interface is separated by content type. This means that you can only create multiple nodes of a single content type at a time.

2. Once you have selected a content type, check the fields that you want to populate, select the number of rows and click on Show.

3. Fill out the node forms and once you finish click on “Create all nodes”.

Pre-populate Button

The “Prepopulate based on first” button allows you to populate all other forms using the values entered in the first form.

If you want to see how this works, just enter some text into the title field on the first node and click on the button. The text within the title field should have been copied into all the other title fields.

Shortcut URL

The “Get shortcut URL” button displays a URL which can be used to pre-populate the number of rows and fields you need.

On the “Create multiple nodes” page select which fields you want to manage and the number of rows, once complete click on “Get shortcut URL”.

Use the generated URL to avoid having to configure the “Create multiple nodes” page over and over again. This feature becomes useful when you have a lot of fields.

  1. I don’t suppose there’s a way to style this multi add form as a table, would be much more handy. Wanted a solution that looks more like an Excel spreadsheet instead of the current view which looks a little clunky. Great site, some nice tutorials here, thanks.
